  1. I've got an M2 that has been great...no problems at all, but it just finished it's third season and I want to to make sure I'm cleaning it the right way. Here's what I've been doing and I was hoping for a little clarification...

    1. Strip the gun down to the following parts... Barrel, Trigger Group, bolt, firing pin, basically everything except the magazine tube and the recoil spring in the stock.

    2. Wipe everything down with a cloth and get the bulk of the junk off.

    3. Q-tip the rest of the corners and stuff that I can't get with the towel.

    4. Spray the trigger assembly/ bolt with brake part cleaner. Wipe down the excess and let it sit for a little while.

    5. Run hoppes bore cleaner through the barrel and then run a bore brush followed by a light coat of rusty duck oil.

    6. Put a few drops of FP10 on the moving parts of the trigger group and inside the bolt.

    7. Re-assemble the gun and wipe down any excess oil or brake cleaner.

    8. Put a couple drops of fp10 on the rails and cycle the gun a few times.

Is this right? Should I be taking the recoil spring out and cleaning? Use different products. I'd like to have this gun 20 years from now and want to make sure I'm doing it right.

  2. I detest removing the stock spring more than once a year, so when I break mine down like yours, I spray Gun Scrub (use the nozzle-straw) inside the receiver end of the recoil spring tube holding the plunger down with a dowel, and let it drip out the drain hole and out the stock with the pad pulled out. Let it dry, then 5 drops of FP-10 down the hatch. Reassemble. Perfect.
  3. You are on the right track, everyone has their own way but search here and learn to clean the magazine and recoil tube. It will lead to a failure of some kind at some point regardless of the gun.

Sure, some will say they never did it and have no problems... Their failure is coming, unless it is a low round count safe or range queen. I had my failure many years ago with species I have not seen in front of my gun since... My best friend had it happen this year with flock after flock of Canadas landing in the decoys after I had my limit... I had to laugh a little inside, he did too (did you read that B?).

I like my bore-snake, and I have had nothing but great success and zero issues with CLP. Old tooth brushes are handy too.

Birchwood Casey makes a synthetic safe gun scrubber that is good and doesn't eat up camo finishes, plastic parts and "O" rings.
